| Summer break for the Vans Penken Park: Season Recap! |
After having defied the spring-like temperatures for quite a while and after numerous awesome slushy sessions for the freestylers, the Vans Penken Park has now finally closed its doors and is ready for the well deserved summer break. We look back on an exciting, eventful and truly amazing season: massive sessions, sick tricks, hot events and plenty of riding fun!
Last year, the Vans Penken Park was elected “European Snowpark of the Year” and thus a huge title had to be defended. So the planning and preparation phase had started early in fall. Everybody waited for the winter and soon – well, with quite a bit of delay – the first snowfalls set in and park designer Sven Toller and his 11 shapers and two snowcats were ready to hit it off! In no time the first setup including the Kids Park and the Advanced Area was created and the Vans Penken Park Christmas tale came true!
Season Opening: Pure Action!
Right after Christmas the park was finally ready: Picture-perfect weather and neatly shaped obstacles gave rise to storms of applause. In order to celebrate the season opening appropriately the freeski pros Niki Sagmeister, Lisa Zimmermann, Flo Ehgartner and Markus Oberwallner came to check out the park and presented action deluxe for our cameras. Naturally, the snowboarders gave their very best as well and thus Roli Scharmer, Marvin Salmina, Chris Kroell and Antoine Tuchant really went the whole hog in the park. The phat session was documented of course and the unique video edits served as the perfect introduction to an outstanding season!
Going Pro: A Park Takes Off!
The motivated shape crew put all their effort into the pro line comprising three giant kickers and with that, once again, the riding level was taken up a notch. No wonder the Vans Penken Park attracted pros and film crews from near and far! Then, before the Mayrhofen Freeski Open, a first-class park checkout took place with freeski pro Patrick Hollaus. At the shooting, also the three best placed riders of the Mayrhofen Freeski Open Cyrill Hunziker, Sebi Geiger and Jonas Hunziker proved with wicked tricks and massive airtime that they really deserve to be counted among the the top-class freeski pros. The result were stunning pictures! But enough of all the guys action; the Vans Penken Park is also the perfect playground for girls! That was proven by Aimee Fuller, one of the world's most talented snowboarders, at the park checkout with several other girls. They shredded the entire park and Aimee was more than enthusiastic about the setup, which obviously really offered everything the girls could wish for. Afterwards, all freestyle addicts were able to witness spectacular action at this year's Vans Wängl Tängl. It was the contest's 10-year anniversary with giant shows, hot competitions and massive tricks in a very legendary manner! The spring fever took over and the thrilled audience was put in the perfect mood for another highlight of the season: the Vans Team Session. Picture-perfect weather put the Vans Penken Park in the right light. After an eventful season, some Vans teamriders visited the park for a big shooting, where they pushed each other to show true top-performances and impressive tricks . Finally the last big event turned the Vans Penken Park into a giant freestyle party: the ultimate Snowbombing. In mellow spring sessions, the kickers, rails and boxes were rocked one more time and the party crowd enjoyed an exceptional spectacle full of fun, parties and action! At the end of such a compelling season there is simply nothing left to say but THANK YOU! Thank you to our shape crew for the great support and the unshakeable commitment!
